Basil plant

Categories: ,

It is estimated that there are over 150 different varieties of basil. Basil is an undemanding plant. It can reach up to 80 cm in height and supports pruning very well.

Basil is a plant associated with the sun and heat. In fact, it needs a sunny exposure and at least 6 hours of sunshine per day. Indoors, place the potted basil in a bright, temperate room (around 20°C) or on a window sill. Of course, you can install the pot on the balcony, in full sun, as soon as the temperatures permit.

Basil is quite water intensive, especially when grown in a pot. It is advisable to water every day during hot weather, never letting the soil dry out between two waterings. The potting soil should always remain slightly damp. Be careful not to drown the roots, however. Watering potted basil should be daily but measured!

Potted basil does not require special care. To limit watering work and avoid lack of water, prefer to water by subirrigation, i.e. by the roots. To do this, fill a cup with 1/2 glass of water and place the pot in the cup. Remove the cup once all the water has been absorbed by the roots.

Don’t hesitate to prune your potted basil as you go. Harvest the leaves, regularly pinch the ends of the branches and cut the flowers to encourage branching.
